The Influence of Organizational Strategic Choices on the Compensation of Knowledge Workers

چکیده

Using a compensation database covering over 50,000 U. S. White Collar employees in 1986 and 1992 this study investigates the relationship between the cash compensation of individuals and the knowledge building strategies of the firms for which they work. Based on the notion that important strategic knowledge inside the firm resides in the memories of the individuals and groups within the firm we examine whether or not the employees involved in the activities most key to building the strategic knowledge of the firm are paid a premium and whether or not the premium is changing over time. The empirical results offer support for these suggestions.
